Beginning in 1992, the Texas Triumph Register presented a special award at the annual VTR South Central Regional Meet (formerly Texas Regional Meet).
This perpetual award was named the GARY JOHNSTON MEMORIAL TROPHY and will be presented annually to the Triumph owner who best exemplifies the spirit of the late Gary Johnston, longtime TTR member, who died tragically in an airplane crash in September of 1991. Gary was very special to us in Houston and he was known throughout our region as the guy with the friendly smile and easy manner. His enthusiasm for Triumphs and his friendship to us all will not be forgotten. We hope this trophy will help to keep that spirit alive for many years to come.
Criteria:
1. Cars to be included: All Triumph models.
2. Selection Committee: Shall consist of a minimum of five members, including the following: (1) Chairman (Ranking TTR Member in attendance or designee); and (2) Ranking Officer from each Club in attendance or designee.
3. Criteria for Eligibility of Nominee:
· Nominee must be a current member, in good standing, of the VTR, a VTR-affiliated chapter, TRA, Stag or Six-Pack.
· Nominee must have been, or currently is serving as, the president, vice-president, events coordinator, treasurer or secretary of one or more of the above-listed club(s).
· Nominee must be entered in the Concours and at least one other driving event in the current year’s Regionals. Said driving events can consist of Autocross, TSD, Funkhana, Gimmick Rallye, or other driving event in which places will be awarded.
